Personal shopping

With every outfit we can be transformed into a different character. Fashion is a personal expression of who you are.  You reveal your psyche through your clothing.  You are discoverable by what you choose to wear.  For me, it’s about going to my treasure box everyday and finding my prize!

I recently spent a day shopping up a storm with a client who needed a Hijab-friendly, modest revamp to her wardrobe.

We began with a wardrobe consult by myself, and a make-up consultation by Tasneem Valley, (Owner of Salon Sahiba, Makeup artist/Hijab stylist based in the East Rand).

After coordinating the clients existing wardrobe and matching scarves to her new look, my client decided that she needed a few tops to keep her going.

Sandton City was our shopping destination of choice.

A budget of approximately R2000 allowed us to purchase the following:

Zara emerald green silk shirt, and black flower printed top

  • Know your style by knowing what’s flattering on your body.  Don’t talk yourself into an outfit that isn’t flattering to your frame, regardless of how popular and trendy it is.
  • If you are shopping for a black-tie event, remember to take your shoes, that way if you have to have in store alterations, you’ll be all set.
  • Don’t buy on impulse.  Ask yourself the following questions when deciding to make your purchase – do I need this?  Does it fit in with my lifestyle or wardrobe?  Where am I going to wear this?  If you are still undecided, then put it on hold and if you are still thinking about it at the end of the day, buy it.
  • Invest in undergarments because the right garment can make everything you own, look better.

Makeup Artistry

The first makeover and skin analysis consult was done by Tasneem Valley and myself.

In this session, we began by analysing the client’s skin type, current makeup routine and brushes and teaching basic makeup application.

Our personal shopping day also included shopping for the right foundation and blush to enhance the clients features – we chose MAC Cosmetics.

Choosing a foundation was the most important step.  We chose MAC studio fix powder and foundation –  A one-step powder and foundation that provides a smooth, flawless, all-matte, full-coverage finish.

I added MAC Fix + spray – An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup.

For blush, we chose Divine Night mineralise skin finish in Scene to be Scene.

  1. Superb blog you have here but I was curious if you knew of any user
discussion forums that cover the same topics discussed
here? I’d really like to be a part of online community where
I can get responses from other knowledgeable people that share the same interest.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thank you!
