Where were you in 2001 when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released ? Oh the nostalgia is still with me from returning from the concert at the Du Forum, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi! If it wasn’t for my sister, a couple years younger than me, I would’ve probably never read the book and put it down as children’s fiction. I’m so glad I didn’t put it down as it’s anything but ‘children’s fiction’. When I heard that there was a movie being released, I off course thought that it cannot possibly be as good the book was – but it was!
J.K Rowling had everyone captivated into the world of wizardry from this very first book. Over a decade and this phenomenon has turned from a book to a very successful movie to a concert – and what a concert it was!
I was lucky enough to be a part of the opening night in Yas Island where I got to reminisce where it all began – picture this Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in high-definition on a 40-foot screen while hearing a world-class orchestra perform composer John Williams’ unforgettable score. ‘The composer is known for composing some of the most incredible and unbelievable pieces of music ever to accompany movies on the big screen’ (amazon.com)
It was truly magical! I had moments of disbelief when looking at the orchestra performing – it is a site to see!
I have to be honest, it was also the first time I had been on a date without Zay in a year and combined with the nostalgia of the movie and the alone time, I have to say it was a pretty awesome night! Plus we played dress up!
If you’re looking to go (baby/toddler free) and you don’t live in Abu Dhabi and you can make a weekend of it then definitely do so!
I didn’t have to worry (as much) about where my toddler was as he was safely tucked away in bed with the help of an amazing babysitting service provided by the hotel in which I stayed.
After being gifted the tickets as media by the amazing Taghred from @arabianmum (Instagram), I just had to find my way there – I simply could not miss it. Off course my first thought was who would look after my toddler as I don’t have a full time nanny. Should we drive an hour away from Dubai? Should we stay over? What are my options.
We decided to stay over and choose a hotel in close proximity.
There are many hotels within walking distance of the Du Forum, on Yas Island. This was perfect as we chose a hotel that is reputable and that offers baby sitting services. It was all set. I did become a helicopter mummy quite soon with calling the hotel at least 4 times before we arrived. Mini interviewed the baby sitter and spoke to guest relations to make sure my toddler was in safe hands – the hotel was more than accommodating!

What to wear: anything that you’re comfortable in but for the fun of it, dress up! I chose to dress up as Hermione Granger and relive my school days! There are memorabilia that can be purchased inside the venue (scarfs, tshirts, wands etc).
What to take: tickets, cash and mobile phone. You will be searched on entering so if you have anything risky then don’t bring it along!
If you do decide to take the littles along which is also totally fine, then under 2’s go free. As it’s the screening of a movie, it is dark – there is an area to purchase snacks and beverages but there are no seating areas. If your little needs to snack and drink then make sure these are brought with you – the queues can get very long for purchasing of snacks/ beverages. It is advisable to go before the intermission.
The concert is riveting – be sure to keep your eyes on the orchestra and look for the cue from the conductor as hearing the music live is unbelievable!
Take a lot of pics and enjoy the show!
